Angela Leidig '92 - 2016 Alumni of the Year

Discovering a passion for music—and for teaching

Angela Leidig learned to love playing and teaching the violin at an early age. She is grateful to the Dock community for nurturing that passion.

Angela Leidig began playing the violin since she was five, and has now been teaching the Suzuki Method for more than 30 years. Angela discovered a passion for teaching children early in her life, and began teaching violin in 1991 while finishing high school. She continued teaching in college, and after graduating, started her own Suzuki studio in Ann Arbor, MI, and also joined the faculty of the Ann Arbor Performing Arts Center. She has since joined the faculty at the Chelsea Center for the Performing Arts and the Boulder Suzuki Strings in Colorado.

Angela received her B.A. in Music from Roanoke College in Salem, VA, and her Masters in Music from Boston University. She has also done doctoral work in violin performance at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She continues to give private lessons and workshops in the Boston area.

“The Dock community has provided the foundation for my love of music and teaching," Angela says. My relationships with teachers here and the nurturing environment, the support and love of the teachers here—has been formational in my life, and I am deeply grateful.”
